It was the first ever experience of me saluting to the PC. A new comer to our school from Bulupitiya came to the ICT centre and began to start the computer by saluting to the PC.

It was very sensitive to me and felt the proud of the ethics of our culture!

Most people are farmers. So, all of them are working paddy fields nowadays. Most people are happy on increasing the buying price of paddy in this season. Most people are working hard on paddy farming for this season now.

I was born in 1977 in a rural village called Pitamaruwa in Sri Lanka. There were foot paths to walk to school, hospital etc. My first school is Sooriyagolla Primary school, there was only a teacher. Teacher and the head master is the same. My father is a teacher and mother is not occupied. I have one sister. There was 4-5 km’s to walk by foot to take foods home from Roeberry small boutiques. To take a bus, needed to walk another mile called “Kambiadiya”.Later our father transferred to Pitamatruwa and I attended to Grade 2 at Pitamaruwa Maha Vidyalaya.Which is 60 km’s distance from Badulla in Sri Lanka. The school was not enough teachers, resources etc.We were eager to learn English but I did not have the opportunity study English up to Grade 9.In Grade nine I was attended Uva College in Badulla.I studied there up to Grade 13, after I selected to the Pasdunrata National College of Education in Kaluthara in Sri Lanka. Then I was appointed as a teacher in Kandakepu-ulpotha Maha Vidyalaya in Kadaketiya in the Uva province.Later I was transferred to the Pitakumbura Navodya School,Bibile, Sri Lanka in 2005.Then I was appointed as the Manager of Computer Learning Centre of the school. Here, I was doing some creative works on Information Communication Technology to children. Lack of English knowledge and technology was forced me to find new methods to teach technology. A year later one officer of Department of education came to see me and appreciated us much.(He do not like to mention his name here.)Then he helped us to make a national level ICT exhibition, which was the largest in the Uva province. Our resource people were University of Moratuwa, Lakhanda Radio and Independence Television Network, Uva community radio, Giradurukotte community radio etc. Later ITN was interviewed us on the exhibition. The exhibition was sponsored by the Secondary Education Modernization Project of Ministry of education in Sri Lanka, and they appreciated our work much and forced us to do much to develop ICT in this rural village in Sri Lanka. Those days we were able to create media unit of the school, given trainings to the children contacting veteran TV/Radio presenters in Sri Lanka. We were held the first Computer Graphics Competition in the Uva province in 2005.we were able to open the website on 25 th November 2005.Then we were posted a letter to the premier computer magazine called “Wijaya Pariganaka” and they are helping us up to now. The children are eager to read the magazine to gain new knowledge. Because of we do not have internet connection up to the moment(01.06.2007).So, the “Wijaya Pariganaka” is only our medium to get new knowledge. In the end of the ICT exhibition we were made, was revolutionize the village on technology. Then, most people were joined hand with us and the village has around 20 computers in their home now.In 2007, we were selected to a testing ground for an e-village among 4 schools in Sri Lanka. Now we are hard working to attend the goal of Sri Lankan e-village.
